Born in 1952 in Mauritius, Alain Gordon-Gentil is a writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker for the television. He worked as a journalist and editor of an investigative magazine before devoting his time to writing and broadcasting. He has published five books with Editions Vizavi before signing a three-novel deal with Editions Julliard. In 2005 he directs his first documentary about the Salt March of Mahatma Gandhi in India, and continues his audio-visual work with Venus d’Ailleurs, a four-part documentary series that tells the story of African, French, Indian and Chinese immigration to Mauritius. His latest film, produced in 2013, is entitled Jacques Brel: dernière Ligne droite aux Marquises.
